Sommer 2060 evo+ garage door opener with rail, motor carriage and Pearl remote

Sommer evo+ or pro+, and which motor size

Every Sommer opener we sell is the same idea: direct drive, where the motor travels along a fixed, pre-tensioned steel chain instead of pulling a trolley, so there is one moving part. Choosing between them comes down to three decisions — where the controls go, how heavy the door is, and whether you need battery backup. Make them in that order.

Every figure below comes from our product pages, which follow Sommer's published documentation. For the clearance figures on every track type, see our low headroom guide.

1. evo+ or pro+: where the controls go

The evo+ builds its control unit into the ceiling-mounted motor head, so there is no separate wall housing to find space for. The pro+ moves the control unit into a separate remote-mounted housing with its own buttons, so setup, limit adjustment and day-to-day operation happen at hand height instead of up a ladder.

That difference changes the space the opener needs. On Sommer's own figures, the evo+ needs 37 in. of clearance above the door on 3 in. low-headroom track; the pro+ needs 27 in., and with the connection coupler and low-headroom bracket it comes down to 22 in. The gap holds at every track radius.

So measure first. If the space above the door is generous, the evo+ is the simpler installation. If the ceiling is low, racked with storage, or the head would end up behind a beam, the pro+ is the one that fits — and the one you can still service.

2. Motor size: the weight of the door

Sommer rates each motor by the counter-balanced weight of a standard-radius sectional door.

Model Motor force Max door weight Layouts we carry
2060 600 N, about 3/4 HP equivalent 600 lb evo+ and pro+
2080 800 N, about 1 HP equivalent 1,100 lb evo+
2110 1,100 N, about 1-1/4 HP equivalent 1,500 lb evo+ and pro+

The 2060 covers a standard single door. The 2080 is the step up when a double door, or a solid-core single, would work the 2060 at its limit. The 2110 is for oversize and insulated doors. If you need the pro+ layout and more than the 2060's 600 lb, go straight to the 2110 pro+: the 2080 comes in the evo+ layout only.

3. Battery backup

Every model comes in two power configurations. Standard runs on household power alone. Accu battery backup adds Sommer's internal battery pack, factory-fitted, so the door still opens during a power outage.

The constraint: California law requires a residential garage door opener to have a battery backup function. We can ship the Accu configurations to California; we cannot ship the Standard ones there.

The rail

The 8 ft rail versions are for sectional doors up to 8 ft tall. For taller doors, the evo+ models also come with a 15 ft rail, and rail extensions are sold separately.

After the opener

Every Sommer we sell runs the 922.5 MHz SOMloq2 radio system, so remotes, keypads and the SOMweb Wi-Fi gateway can be added later instead of bought up front. Start with what you will use, and add the rest when you know you want it.

Sommer builds these openers in Germany, and we are an authorized Sommer dealer. If you are not sure which one fits, send us the clearance above your door, the door's size and material, and your state through the contact page. We will tell you which one to order, including when it is the smaller motor.
