A robotic pool cleaner is a self-contained machine that scrubs and filters your pool on its own. Unlike a suction or pressure cleaner, it does not run off your pump or plumbing. It has its own motor, its own filter, and on the cordless models here, its own battery. Nothing to connect, no hose across the deck, no extra load on your filtration system.
Cordless or corded?
Corded cleaners run indefinitely but tether you to an outlet, with a floating cable that tangles around steps and ladders. Cordless units run on a charge, so runtime matters, but they move freely and are far simpler to drop in and lift out. Everything on this page is cordless.
What to look for
Coverage. Match the stated pool size to your own, and bear in mind that an irregular or stepped pool takes longer to clean than a rectangle of the same area.
Where it cleans. Floor-only machines leave the waterline and the surface to you. Units that climb walls and skim the surface replace more of the manual work.
Debris type. Fine sand and silt are a filtration question. Leaves, seeds and berries are a capacity and navigation question, and that is where mapping and larger baskets earn their money.
Retrieval. A cleaner that parks at the surface when it finishes, and drains water as it lifts, is much easier to handle than one sitting on the bottom of the deep end.
