Emporia PowerSmart Upgrade — Load Management for the Classic Charger
Description
The Emporia PowerSmart Upgrade adds load management to an Emporia Classic charger. The kit is a Vue 3 energy monitor with two 200 A sensors, plus PowerSmart activation for one Classic, the same pairing the Emporia Pro ships with.
The Vue 3 reads your whole panel, and the Classic slows its charging when the house is busy so the total stays under the panel's service rating. This listing is the kit only; it does not include a charger.
Shipping and Delivery
Delivery: Free shipping on most orders within the continental United States; Alaska and Hawaii are excluded.
Dispatch: It ships from Emporia by parcel carrier.
At delivery: Check the box and the kit before you sign, and contact us within 48 hours with photos if anything arrives damaged.
Key Features
PowerSmart load management: Reads the panel about 3,000 times a second and adjusts the Classic's charge rate to keep the home under its service rating.
Two 200 A sensors: Clamp around the mains to read whole-home use.
Whole-home monitoring: Household energy use in the Emporia app, with room for up to 16 circuit sensors, sold separately.
Solar and peak rates: Charges from surplus solar where you have it, and shifts charging away from peak-rate hours.
Wi-Fi or Ethernet: Connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or a wired 10/100 connection.
Low draw: The monitor uses under 3 W.

What's Included
In the box: The Vue 3 energy monitor, two 200 A current sensors, a power harness, a Wi-Fi antenna, and PowerSmart activation for one Classic charger.
Installation and Compatibility
Electrician work: The Vue 3 mounts inside the service panel and its sensors clip around the live mains, so treat it as a job for a licensed electrician. Installation is not included.
Power feed: The monitor's harness connects to a breaker in the panel, either an empty one or one already in use.
Activation: Emporia support switches PowerSmart on for your Classic once the Vue 3 is online. We send you the steps and the support contact with your order.
Classic only: PowerSmart works with Emporia chargers only, and the Pro already includes it.
Busbar panels: Flexible sensors are available for busbar panels, sold separately.
Network: 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi at the panel, or an Ethernet cable brought into it.
Setup help: Questions about installation, setup or the app come to us first.
Warranty
Term: 1 year from the date of delivery on the Vue 3 monitor, against defects in materials and workmanship.
Not covered: Water damage, use outside the installation guide or Emporia's instructions, and changes to the hardware, including drilled holes. Labor for diagnosis, removal or reinstallation is not covered, and neither is shipping a faulty unit back.
Claims: Keep your order confirmation. Contact us first with your order number and a description of the fault, and we take the claim to Emporia. Emporia repairs or replaces the faulty hardware, or refunds what was paid for it.
Returns: Within 30 days of delivery, unused and in the original packaging, under our return and refund policy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same load management the Pro has?
Yes. The Pro ships with the Vue 3 and PowerSmart in the box. This kit brings the same pair to a Classic.
Should I buy a Classic plus this kit, or a Pro?
Buying new, the Pro is priced lower for the same result. The kit is for a Classic you already own.
Do I need this with a new Classic?
Only if your panel has no room for a dedicated circuit. If it has room, the Classic alone is enough.
Does it work with another brand of charger?
No. PowerSmart works with Emporia chargers only.
Does it slow my charging?
Only when the rest of the house is drawing heavily. The rest of the time the Classic charges at its full rate.
Does the Vue 3 need its own breaker?
Its power harness connects to a breaker in the panel, either an empty one or one already in use. Your electrician picks the spot.

Who it is for
For the Classic owner with a full panel
This kit adds the Pro's load management to an Emporia Classic you already own, so the charger stays within your panel's rating instead of needing a new 60-amp circuit. If you are buying a charger new, look at the Emporia Pro first — it includes all of this and costs less than a Classic plus this kit.

What the kit does
-
The Pro's load management
The same Vue 3 and PowerSmart pairing the Pro ships with, added to a Classic you already own.
-
No new charger
This is the upgrade kit only. It does not include a charger, and it works with Emporia chargers only.
-
Whole-home monitoring
The Vue 3 reads the whole panel, so the app reports household energy use rather than charging alone.
-
Enabled by Emporia
Emporia support switches PowerSmart on once the Vue is online. We give you the steps and the support contact with your order.
Load management without a new service
What the Vue 3 and PowerSmart add to a Classic
-
The panel upgrade is the expensive part
Many homes cannot add a dedicated 60-amp circuit without a service panel upgrade. PowerSmart is the alternative: the Vue monitor reads whole-home draw from inside the panel, and the Classic throttles its charge rate so the house never exceeds the panel's rating.
Whether it applies to your house is a call for your electrician and your local inspector
-
See the whole house, not only the car
Because the Vue reads the whole panel, the app reports household energy use. Add up to 16 circuit sensors later for room-by-room detail; they are sold separately.
Vue 3: ±2% accuracy, 3 × 200 A and 16 × 50 A current channels
-
Charge on solar surplus or off-peak rates
The Vue 3 lets the Classic charge from surplus solar where you have it, and shift charging away from peak-rate hours.

Plain answers
Pro or Classic, a new Classic and installation
I own a Classic. Is this the same load management the Pro has?
Yes. The Pro ships with the Vue and PowerSmart in the box. This kit is those two items for a Classic.
Should I buy a Classic plus this, or a Pro?
If you are buying new, the Pro. It is cheaper for the same result. Buy this kit only when you already own a Classic.
Do I need this with a new Classic?
Only if your panel has no room for a dedicated circuit. If it has room, the Classic alone is enough.
Does it slow my charging?
Only when the rest of the house is drawing heavily. The rest of the time the Classic charges at full rate.
Can I install it myself?
Treat it as electrician work. The Vue mounts inside the service panel, the sensors clip around the mains, and professional installation is recommended.
Before you order
Not a homeowner installation. The Vue mounts inside the service panel: the two 200-amp sensors clip around the mains, and the unit takes a two-pole breaker position for its own supply. Installation is not included, and professional installation is recommended.
PowerSmart is switched on by Emporia support against your Classic charger once the Vue is online. It connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet. We will give you the steps and the support contact with your order.
Ships by parcel carrier. Free shipping on most orders within the continental United States; Alaska and Hawaii are excluded. Installation is not included.
Emporia warrants the Vue monitor for 1 year. Returns are handled under our return and refund policy.
We do not install. Our installer partner Treehouse quotes licensed electricians for Level 2 charger installation — request an installation quote. Mark in the form that you already have a charger. We may receive a referral fee when you book through our Treehouse link.
